Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe we are in the final half term of the year already! It certainly promises to be a busy one. We have begun the half term with the wonderful news of a new baby at Riston. Mrs Densley – Seymour and her beautiful daughter Dorothy Rose, who came a little earlier than expected, have already made the most of technology and talked online to her class! It was wonderful to see the excitement of the children, and Mrs Densley-Seymour, as they all glimpsed their first peek of the baby!

Our value for this half terms worship is Respect. We look forward to sharing our work with you on twitter at we explore this value. You can find us at ristonprimary@ristonschool.

Kind regards,
Mrs S Hall

WOW!

Look what happens when we share! Our Global work has been so successful that our partner school, Wisdom Primary, is now looking at a much brighter future! The money sent from the school is being used to create a building. The school is currently just a wooden frame with tarp over it, which is torn and incomplete. The pictures, I have just received, show a community team working hard and baking bricks together to make a school for the children of Wisdom Primary. As we end our half term on the value of friendship – I think we may struggle to find a better example of friendship than this.

Attendance and from the office

Our target is 97% for the school. Our attendance is at 96.2% which is very close to us hitting our target. Thank you for supporting us in making sure your child is in school and ready to learn every day. We look forward to awarding even more 100% attendance certificates at the end of the Summer Term and of course our prizes and certificate for children with 100% attendance for the whole year.

PTFA Quiz and silent auction night

If you haven’t got the date in your diary yet, get Saturday night at 7pm booked in to join the PTFA for what promises to be a fun night of bingo and prizes! The PTFA have done a wonderful job in putting together all of our activities this year and my thanks must go out to them for all they have done. As a small PTFA, of often just two organising the events, they really have worked exceptionally hard. Please do get in touch if you are able to help. The money raised is shared with all of the children and enables every child to benefit. Get in touch with the school office if you can help and support, but are not sure who to contact.

Riston Wrap Around Care

Due to receiving only two requests for after school care, we are unfortunately unable to proceed with an after school club. As planned, from September we will be opening our breakfast club doors for nursery children to join us. Breakfast club opens at 8am each morning and provides food, games and fun for any child who would like to attend. The cost is £2.50 without breakfast and £3 with. If your nursery child would like to join the breakfast club, please contact Mrs Rodgers in the school office so we can discuss availability.

Singing for Well Being

Sneak peak… We will be sharing our wonderful singing at the music concert this year and hope you are able to join us. For a sneak peak of our musical warm ups, fun and quite frankly amazing sounds we would like to invite you in on Friday June 21st to come and enjoy it for yourself. Please note this is a participatory session not a concert – no solos will be required, but we are all up on our feet and singing and would love you to join in if you’re coming along. It really is great fun!

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and managed to make the most of the sunshine. Hopefully it will make a reappearance for us soon! The children have settled back brilliantly and are certainly enjoying the new topics that have launched in school. Information about your child’s topic and the term ahead in their classroom can be found on the curriculum letters sent out by your child’s class teacher.

Following on from our sponsored event to raise awareness of Goal 6 – Safe water and Sanitation, which is one of our 17 Global Goals, I am pleased to announce the final total for our partner school, Wisdom Primary, was £529! This is an incredible total that will make a life-changing difference to the pupils. This money will be added to the Krafty Kidz total from their ongoing sales all year which is a whopping £328.62. I am so incredibly grateful to you, the children and the staff for supporting our partner school and working to achieve Goal 10 – Equality. This work is not about charity; it is about sharing; it is about making our world a fair place for all. Following an emotional conversation about the success of the work, Mrs Massoqoui would like me to send her sincere and humble thanks to you all. The schools have also exchanged prayers and letters and will continue to explore our global learning together.

Kind regards,
Mrs S Hall

Our target is 97% for the school. Our attendance is at 96.2% which is very close to us hitting our target. Thank you for supporting us in making sure your child is in school and ready to learn every day. We look forward to awarding even more 100% attendance certificates at the end of the Summer Term and of course our prizes and certificate for children with 100% attendance for the whole year.

Our Curriculum

We have been continuously working on developing our curriculum over the past 2 years to ensure it is engaging and interesting for all of our children and enables them to apply their knowledge across the whole curriculum. Throughout this period, extensive work has been put into developing our ICT and most recently our art curriculum. When we originally designed the curriculum we worked with the children to gain their views on how long topics should be and many discussions were held with the school council to help us to organise the delivery of each subject. As the curriculum has evolved, we have held discussions as staff and children to explore the delivery of each subject. This opportunity to discuss learning has led to us making a change in the duration of each topic. Following a vote by teachers and children, it has been decided that each topic will now last the whole term. This will allow us more time to really develop our knowledge in each subject and greater opportunities to work across the curriculum using a thematic approach. Feedback will be gathered from the children and staff at the end of this term to evaluate the impact of these changes. Further information will follow at the end of the academic year as we continue to work on developing our curriculum this term. It’s certainly got all of our creative juices flowing and the buzz in staff and pupil meetings really is wonderful to see and hear!

PTFA Spring Fair

Sunday was a hive of activity in the village hall with the launch of the Riston Spring Fair! It was wonderful to see so many parents, children and community members out supporting the event. Mrs Buttifant and I certainly made use of the shopping opportunities and left with huge bags of goods and cakes! My thanks must go out to Mrs Pike and Mrs Dunn for pulling the whole event together; this is just one of many events they have organised this year! A huge thank you to all the parents manning the stalls and brigning your children along to enjoy the fun. The events raised nearly £200 with an additional £60 for the Krafty Klub, which has gone straight into their Wisdom Primary pot.

Riston Wrap Around Care

We are pleased to announce that from September we will be opening our breakfast club doors for nursery children to join us if they would like. Breakfast club opens at 8am each morning and provides food, games and fun for any child who would like to attend. The cost is £2.50 without breakfast and £3 with. If you require your nursery child to join the breakfast club sooner than September please contact the school office so we can discuss availability.

We are hoping to be able to provide an after school club at Riston from September. We have attempted this previous years, but unfortunately we have not had the demand to enable a club to run. In order to be viable we would need to fill 5 places each night. The cost will be set at £5 a child and will include a snack and drink. We will be sending out more details next week and would be grateful if you could let us know any requirements you have, so we can plan for September. The proposed club would run from 3.30 – 5.30pm each day.

Singing for Well Being

As I have previously mentioned, we have been incredibly lucky to receive a generous donation from The Jean Freedman Music Foundation to provide a full term’s project of fun and song. This project will launch on May the 10th and will be led by Mrs McCartney a fully trained music specialist who’ll be helping us with our project. We would love parents and families to come along and get involved as we journey through the project so we will be sending out invitations to sessions as the project develops. Look out on twitter to hear snippets of our opening afternoon!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you so much for supporting our Global learning day by gaining sponsorship for your children in our great water carry. Please could all sponsor money be handed in by Friday 5th April. It was exciting to get live updates throughout the day from Sierra Leone who were participating in the same learning. The children showed our values beautifully and showed a great understanding of social justice in their discussions following the event. Shared work will continue and be planned through our International Pupil Council which we are working to establish as a collective with our benefice here and with our partners in Sierra Leone.

Children at Wisdom Primary carrying water they have collected and enjoying their Global lesson.

This week has been an incredibly busy start with four visitors coming to see us from the academy. We had a brilliant focus day with the mathematics leader for EBOR yesterday. She was very impressed with the standard children were working at and spent the full day immersed in our classrooms enjoying the learning. In addition we had the academy IT specialist in working with Miss Groom to get some exciting developments in how we use our IT ready for September. The whole staff benefitted from some expert chrome book training and we can’t wait to see this in our classrooms.

Today we have opened our doors to two teachers from neighbouring schools who have asked to come and see our learning. The feedback from all of our visitors is always superb – the compliments your children receive for their superb learning behaviours and manners is always at the top of any feedback. It’s always lovely to share this feedback with the children and a great testament to the hard work of the staff and children. I am once again left feeling very proud of all the children.

Wishing you all a lovely Easter.
Kind regards,
Mrs S Hall

Attendance and from the office

Our target is 97% for the school. Our attendance is at 96.2% which is very close to us hitting our target. Thank you for supporting us in making sure your child is in school and ready to learn every day. An updated copy of your child’s attendance will be sent home on Friday in your child’s book bag. Certificates for children achieving 100% attendance for Spring term will also be awarded this week.

SATS

Children in Year 6 and Year 2 will be sitting their SATS this May. For parents wanting to see an example of the types of papers your child will be completing and to have more information provided by the class teachers; a session will be running on Wednesday 24th April directly after the drop in. Mrs Densely will lead the KS1 SATs (Year 2) information at 4.00 in the Topcats classroom and Mrs Buttifant will lead the KS2 SATs (Year 6) information session in the Highflyers classroom. If you are unable to attend these sessions and would like further information please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher.

Thank you for your help

As we come to an end of a busy term, it is a brilliant opportunity to pause and reflect on how lucky we are for all the great helpers and volunteers that come in to school to help learning and to keep the place looking good! Our PTFA are integral to this work and have done a brilliant job with leading the fundraising this year! Our thanks must go to our parent at The Bay Horse pub who put on a fantastic quiz night to raise much needed funds for a sport kit. Our reading volunteers give us a brilliant opportunity for our children to read aloud and help us with all the book changes, an essential job in school! And last, but not least, to those that have helped to keep our school looking beautiful by helping with the school grounds and planting. We are lucky to have such a supportive school community. Your help is greatly appreciated by us all.

Parent Refreshment at 3.00pm on the 24th April

If you are able to join us on the 24th of April our digital leaders will be giving you the opportunity to see our chrome books in action and to show you how we use our google classroom to help us with all of our learning. We hope you are able to join us.
