On Saturday 15th March children were invited to watch our local ice-hockey team, Hull Seahawks play the Peterborough Phantoms. Y5/6 children have just completed a six lessons of ice-hockey coaching with two of the team’s star players. It was the perfect opportunity to introduce all our children to the game and the atmosphere of the sport at our local venue. We were delighted to watch the team win 4-1 and children took photos with the team and their mascot. Go Seahawks!

Aldi impressed with our High Flyers Christmas Advert Ideas

We do realise that it is only January and a little early to be talking about Christmas 2025

However, is it ever too early? ………As part of their writing year 5/6 decided that they were going to be the next Aldi Christmas Advert writers

They produced an innovated story based on the Grinch, this was sent to Aldi who were impressed by the writing skills.. Let hope Kevin loves it and The Asparagus who stole Christmas makes the final cut!!!

Residential December 2024

We had a fantastic time on our first ever winter residential at Peat Rigg! We enjoyed ziplining, crate stacking, caving, bushcraft, low ropes, orienteering, archery and abseiling. It was a great opportunity for us to develop our team working skills as well as building resilience and confidence.

In Science the pupils have been learning about the sun, earth and moon and on Science Learning Day the topic was ‘Alternative Energy’

A Local Artist came into school to doodle with the children

Very importantly the Police came to talk to children about safety, bullying and discrimination

Artists are flourishing in the Bluebirds Class…..

Pupil Parliament Celebration Event

In the week when the country decides on the next government, the children involved in the Pupil Parliament attended an event in York to celebrate all their hard work on the Global Goals this year – equality, diversity and inclusion. The children have led worship and have attended meetings with other Ebor schools online. The event brings together all the representatives in person to celebrate their work. Well Done to the School Council.

The staff at Riston Primary school would also like to say a huge congratulations and well done to our brilliant year 2 and year 6 children who completed their SATs! We are so very proud of you.

We know that SATs only measure a very small part of how incredibly talented our children are, we have outstanding athletes, imaginative artists, writers, actors, comedians within our school, we are so proud of you all! Keep being wonderful, keep being you.

RE Day

The school took part in an R.E day where we were lucky enough to welcome Imran Kotwal to come to talk to the children about his Muslim faith. We learned about the 5 pillars of Islam, the life of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) as well as learning about pilgrimages. The children asked questions that developed their understanding and also talked about their own faith.

The staff and children would also like to thank the local community for their kind donations of plant pots. We had lots of wonderful donations. We would like to say a huge thank you to Brian Drake (Helping Hands Maintenance Services) who donated not only plant pots but compost, sunflower seeds and bamboo canes as well. The children are already enjoying the opportunity to plant and nurture their vegetables.

At Riston CE Primary Academy we celebrated our little trooper by having a purple day. Children learned the official song of the service children and created fantastic pieces of art, focusing on the dandelion and the forces. Military children bloom everywhere the wind carries them. They are hardy and upright. Their roots are strong, cultivated deeply in the culture of the military, planted swiftly and surely. They’re ready to fly in the breezes that take them to new adventures, new lands, and new friends. We are so proud of our service families and their amazing children.
